A communications-campaign is designed for Cyprus Turkish Electricity Establishment (KIB-TEK) to increase the awareness of the families on using electricity more efficiently and more wisely. The campaign is designed by EMU Energy Research Centre and The REAP Project. The team members are Asst. Prof. Dr. Ugur Atikol from EMU Energy Research Centre, Nilufer Turksoy from EMU Faculty of Communications and Selen Mesutoglu from REAP project. The messages are conveyed to the target group by using the media channels such as radio, TV and press. A brochure and four posters were also produced.
Messages include fuel switching from electricity to LPG in heating, using some electricity appliances at off-peak times and using energy efficient appliances, such as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) to save energy.
Energy efficiency and fuel switching are also promoted by the distribution of 300,000 CFLs and 3500 kerosene heaters to households by KIB-TEK, aiming at enhancing the importance of the messages. The price of Kerosene was reduced from 1.6 YTL to 1 YTL per litre, and that of LPG from 1.90 YTL to 1.75 YTL per kg to be valid through the three months in winter.
